avatar Hi Renee,

I am very impressed with what you are doing on here. My ten year old son was listening with me to your piece on Blog Talk Radio and he told me that it was making him uncomfortable that somebody was suggesting that I take he and his two brothers out to do more activities.

We need to talk, I have so much to say, but first and foremost, I will tell you that your points on organization, communication and reading time are very important. As for activities, they are important also but it is imperative that you let them tell you what it is that they want to do and not impose your ideas on them. Boys can be so creative if they have the opportunity.

All you really need, with older boys of course, is a vat of wood, nails, glue and a hammer and see what they come up with. Make boats for a nearby lake or stream, fly kites, sleep outside, stargaze, have cooking lessons, play ball games with them...all they really want is you to play with them.

Birth Order

By Renee Martinez

February 8, 2012

I find it interesting how birth order seems to play a significant role in who a child will become. I have 4 boys, and I want to make sure that their birth order will not hinder their full potential.  Birth order can can be a factor in career choices, behavior, personality type, or even how well they will do in school.
