Mom Away
I'm at the airport, waiting for my connection to return home from a 3-day work trip. It's early. I took a red-eye out iof Vegas last night. I'll be a wreck by 4pm.
This trip has been incredibly educational on several levels. Professionally, I came away from the seminars full of new information and ideas. As a mom, being away from my kids (this was the first time I was away from all four) was an interesting experience. I was so busy that I really didn't have time to miss them. While the freedom that came with my jaunt was nice, I'm ready to return to my crazy life with the boys.
Travelling with kids is tough. This one woman had a tiny baby (maybe 3 months) and he was crying. I felt so bad for her and him. He was hungry because once she fed him, he fell alseep. My mother instincts kicked in and I would have helped her out had it not been so creepy for me to ask.
The girl behind me was kicking my seat in the beginning of my flight. Then I turned around and said "hi. You're not going to kick my seat all night, are you?" and she stopped. Thank goodness. I don't know what I would have done if she hadn't.
My trip gave me some insight into what my husband deals with. He travels frequently and oftentimes comes home on red-eye flights. It's rough. The seats are small and it's hard to get comfortable. In my opinion, it's less stessful to be away from home, but I'm looking forward to seeing the crew.

“Studies show that if you reward people for doing an activity, they often stop doing it for fun; being paid turns it into ‘work.’” So says Gretchen Rubin in her runaway bestseller, The Happiness Project. She even mentions reading. “Parents, for example, are warned not to pay children for reading—they’re teaching kids to read for a reward,” she says, “not for pleasure.”
